Usually, this update occurs a at a minimum of every 3 years, or after significant project completion, large unexpected repairs, etc.).

By having a plan for the use of reserve funds, conducting a reserve fund study regularly, and monitoring the reserve fund, the board can avoid the need for special assessments or borrowing, which can be a burden on unit owners and call into question whether previous directors conducted their due diligence - an unpleasant experience that no one wants to go through, ever.
