Your Home Maintenance Checklist for Summer

The days are getting longer, making it a good time to get started on home projects. To keep mosquitoes at bay, walk around your property twice a week and dump out any water that has collected. Inspect kitchen and bath fixtures and check safety devices. Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors should be tested at least once a month and replaced every 10 years. Check the expiration date on any fire extinguishers and replace them if needed.

Tackle these to-dos over a weekend. Launder soft furnishings, clean up upholstery and Roman blinds, prepare the porch, keep landscape fire-safe, deep-clean your grill, and check the fuel line for cracks and clogged burner holes. Do what you can to keep dry brush away from your home and remove weeds, fallen leaves, needles and other items that could become fuel in a fire.
