Some Licensing and Education Requirement Updates for Condo Managers

The Condominium Management Registry Authority of Ontario (CMRAO) requires condominium managers and management providers to renew their licences annually, typically by June 30th each year, with an exception for the initial transition year of 2018 when the deadline was extended to August 31st. Managers must ensure their renewal applications are submitted online by this date to continue providing services for the upcoming licence year. For the 2019-2020 licence year, renewal will be open from May 1st to June 30th, 2019.

New continuing education requirements have been introduced, effective July 2, 2019, specifically for General Licensees who completed their educational and examination requirements before November 1, 2017. This education, aimed at updating knowledge on recent changes to Ontario's Condominium Act, consists of three webinars and one test offered online by the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO). The cost is $125 plus HST, with additional fees for re-writes. These requirements do not yet apply to General Licensees who completed their education after November 1, 2017, Transitional General Licensees, or Limited Licensees, although future expansions to include these groups are anticipated.
