Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Reducing waste and recycling is easy for individuals, but it is difficult for condo communities to implement due to cultural barriers, cost considerations, education and resident turnover. Newer condo buildings incorporate tri-sorter trash chutes to increase waste diversion and reduce collection costs. Recycling rates are lower in multi-residential buildings than single family homes. Condo communities can reduce waste collection costs by creating a swap table and virtual swap site. Clothing can be recycled through donation bins, electronic waste can be reused in new products, hazardous materials can be picked up by municipal services, and beer and liquor containers can be collected and used to fund community events or charity donations.
