Article Summary:

A nomination committee is an effective way to recruit qualified, capable and interested candidates for condo boards. It should be established about six months prior to the annual general meeting to ensure at least one nominee for each open position. The committee should review a list of directors who are departing and note any special attributes, skills or knowledge that may need to be replaced. The committee should also advertise upcoming director vacancies internally and specify desired skillset(s). The committee should recommend candidates willing to serve as director that completes a desired skillset and ensure all candidates go through a nominating committee to assess their suitability.

The committee should meet individually with each candidate to conduct interviews and provide an orientation of the role, responsibilities and commitment. Recommendations should be made to give owners confidence in the ability of the director-candidates, and candidates not suitable or available can be asked to sit on an advisory council or committee.
