Legislative Newsflash Ontario - Ministry Update on Temporary Legislative Amendments Related to Annual Meeting Timeline - Sep 2020

The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services has provided an update regarding the temporary legislative amendments related to the annual meeting timelines for corporations in Ontario. These amendments, made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, allowed for the deferral of annual meetings under certain circumstances. The declared emergency, which triggered these amendments, ended on July 24th, 2020. As a result, there will be no further extensions of annual meeting timelines beyond the specified periods. However, temporary amendments allowing virtual meetings to be called and held will continue to be in effect until the 120th day after the day the emergency is terminated, with the possibility of further extension.
