Legislative Newsflash: Residential Tenancies

Author:
Publication date:

Article Summary:

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has significantly disrupted the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) in Ontario, resulting in delays of 5-6 months between the filing of an application and the scheduled hearing date. This has implications for condominium corporations and unit owners, as their interests are often at issue in LTB proceedings, especially when dealing with problem tenants. Condominium corporations may not directly obtain orders terminating tenants' tenancies but can assist unit owner landlords in dealing with their problem tenants through the LTB. Cooperation between condominium corporations, managers, and unit owners is suggested to minimize the impact of delays on condominium corporations and unit residents.
