Extension of Temporary Legislative Amendments Related to Virtual Meetings

The Ontario government has extended the temporary legislative provisions that allow corporations governed by the Business Corporations Act, Corporations Act, Co-operative Corporations Act, and Condominium Act, 1998 to hold virtual meetings. These provisions will now be effective until December 31, 2021. The move is aimed at helping corporations meet their obligations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services had recently sought feedback from the public on whether further temporary or permanent amendments are needed under certain business law statutes and under the Condo Act in relation to virtual processes. The ministry will continue to monitor COVID-19-related developments and communicate any additional updates in the future, as appropriate.
