Decarbonization Planning for 2030 and Beyond

Article Summary:

The pressure is on companies to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with government targets and environmental, social, and governance imperatives. The Canadian government aims to reduce the output of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) from the building sector by 38 megatonnes by 2030. Meanwhile, many commercial real estate companies have their targets. Asset-level plans are necessary to map the path to net-zero, and building owners/managers could receive tax rebates of up to 30% of the capital cost of various investments in low-carbon heating systems, renewable energy generation and energy storage. Companies need to start with rock-solid baselines and drive energy efficiency to achieve their net-zero goals.

Keywords:

decarbonization, net-zero, tax credits, carbon dioxide equivalent, GHG emissions, low-carbon technologies.
