CMRAO & CAT Updates

The CCI Huronia Winter 2023 Condo Buzz Newsletter provides updates on the CMRAO (Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario) and CAT (Condominium Authority Tribunal) in Ontario. The CMRAO administers licensing and education requirements for property managers, and there have been changes to the number of courses required and the introduction of continuing professional education requirements. Property managers will need to acquire CPE credits in various categories to renew their licenses annually. The CAT offers an online dispute resolution system for condo-related disputes and has expanded its jurisdiction to cover various issues. A recent CAT decision states that recordings of homeowner meetings on virtual platforms are considered official condominium records, and condominiums should set a retention period for such recordings through a Board resolution.
