A Quick Guide to Action Items & Action Item Lists

Action items are small tasks that should be executed to achieve a larger, more complex objective. They take many forms in project management, from activities that must be completed to events that must take place. Creating a list of action items is the best way to assign these jobs and track progress. To write detailed action items for project planning, project managers should keep in mind three key questions: who will be the task owner, what will be done, and when. All action items should be time-bound in order to be effective for task management.
When creating action items, it is important to define a title and tracking number, establish a priority level for each item, set due dates, assign a task owner, and include who created the action item as well as who they assigned it to. This will simplify tracking and reporting on them, as well as speed up project communication.
