A Complete Guide to PMIS

Project management information systems (PMIS) are software that help project managers plan, execute and close their projects. They enable an organized and controlled flow of information so nothing is siphoned off or misplaced. A PMIS is made to support all aspects of project management, including integration management, scope management, project cost management, project time management, project quality management, project communications management, project risk management, project procurement management and project stakeholder management. It also has tools for scheduling, work authorization, information collection and distribution, and automated gathering and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs). To achieve this, a PMIS has a series of tools.

A Project Management Information System (PMIS) is a software tool used to manage a project life cycle. It has different functions depending on the phase of the project, such as schedule and planning, resource management, budget, control and performance, reporting and communication, integration and ease of use, and project execution. A PMIS should include a wide variety of project management software features, such as resource management, time tracking, work management and project management features, plus real-time collaboration features, dashboards, reporting and more. During the initiation phase, a PMIS helps to establish a preliminary budget, define the scope of work, prepare the bid and present data to decision-makers. When planning a project, it helps with scheduling details, task and critical path analysis, cost management planning, WBS analysis and integration of control processes. Once the project has been executed, the PMIS collects, organizes and stores data as it comes in from the project team.
