Article Summary:

7 Secrets for Conveying Confidence as a Project Manager

The most important details in this text are the seven secrets for conveying confidence as a project manager. Confidence is an essential trait for a project manager because a large part of their work is on winning over team members, stakeholders, and clients from their point of view. These secrets include fake it, right-size your confidence, be confident in yourself, your team, and your process, and greet people with firm and equal hands. The first secret is to convey confidence to buy yourself and your team the time to earn that confidence, and the second is to be confident in your capacity, integrity, and resources to do a good job. The third secret is to greet people with a firm and equal handshake, and the fourth is to have a positive attitude.

Finally, the fifth secret is to have confidence in your team and process. The most important details in this text are the three Ps of confident body language: posture, position, and poise. Posture should be head up, shoulders back, and square on to the person or people you're talking with. Position should be vertical, with the flat of the palm facing neither up nor down. Eye contact should be practiced in moderation, and posture should be still when you can and move confidently when you need to. Poise should be placed in a stable structure and held still.
