Article Summary:

What Is Quality Planning & Why Is It Important?

Quality planning is the method of deciding what's most important to a project during the planning stage. It involves defining the resources needed to deliver the project, what steps to take and specifications that have to be met. It also involves determining the scope of what will be measured, and the metrics to measure. Quality planning is important because it increases the risk that stakeholders will not be satisfied with the final deliverable. It also benefits the project manager and project team, as there's less reworking, higher productivity and more efficiency when following a quality plan.
Quality planning is essential for managing the quality of a project. It involves determining what is meant by "quality" within the project, conducting a gap analysis, creating a quality team, defining roles and responsibilities, establishing quality control procedures, creating acceptance criteria, and brainstorming with the team to integrate the needed quality improvements. Quality planning also helps the customer or end-user to be satisfied with the product or service.
