Article Summary:

How to Prep for Vacation So Nothing Goes Wrong

Jennifer recommends seven ways to prepare for vacation so nothing goes wrong. These include naming someone to act as your backup, preparing them for what they need to do and what they might have to do in your absence, bringing them up to speed on the projects and tasks you're working on, and providing them with project tools and information while you're gone. These steps will help you get your work in order for an extended period and give you a break.
When taking a vacation, it is important to notify everyone who you interface with that there will be a backup person in place, close out tasks that are due, assign tasks to someone else, organize and file paperwork, and have all outstanding invoices or bills paid. Set expectations with coworkers and clients by letting them know that you are available by call or email to address questions or concerns. If you're reachable, let people know when.
