Conflict Resolution Tips: Aiming for Informal Condo Conflict Resolution

Though, if the conflict's still there, you may want to consider some informal means for resolution:

  • Stay calm and keep your emotions in check.

  • Try to understand the other person's perspective and listen to their concerns.

  • Be respectful and communicate in a clear and concise manner.

  • Avoid personal attacks and focus on the issue at hand.

  • Try to resolve the issue through informal means first, such as a friendly conversation or mediation.

  • Keep a record of any interactions or correspondence related to the conflict.

Conflict Resolution Tools: Formal Ways to Address Conflict in Your Condominium

But if that didn't cut it, you may need to escalate to some more formal methods:

  • Understand the role of the property management company and the board of directors.

  • Attend owner's meetings and voice your concerns in a respectful and constructive manner.

  • Use the condo corporation's complaint process to formally raise concerns.

  • Document any violations of the condo corporation's rules or bylaws.

  • Be prepared to compromise and find a middle ground.

If you're a condo owner that's unsure of anything to do with your condominium information, don't forget that you can submit a Request for Records to your property management or board of directors so you can examine the information you need to get a better understanding of the condo's operations and its leadership's decision-making.

Conflict Resolution Strategies: Leveraging Legal Options

And unfortunately, you may even have to look at some legal options:

  • Consider seeking the advice of a lawyer who specializes in condo law.

  • Seek support from friends, family or a professional if the conflict is causing significant stress or anxiety.
